8 pm. How wild is your weather? This interactive exhibition,
based on the physics and mathematics of wind, air,
heat, light and sound is an exciting hands-on approach
to understanding the science behind everyday weather.
Using devices such as a working weather station, a
simulated tornado and a Doppler radar, visitors explore
science concepts that are the foundation of meteorology
such as the water cycle, wind, lightning and heat. Free and

For generations, their hand-tooled creations
have connected horse and rider. As both
artists and craftsmen, saddle makers designed
and built a valuable tool that included a unique
artistic touch. The exhibit will feature
an old-fashioned saddle store with all types of tack,
an area where local saddle makers can demonstrate their
craft, an interactive area that includes children's activities
and show the steps to making a saddle, and an historic
area that will profile two of the top saddle makers
in the Southwest - Austin "Slim" Green and S. D. Myres. Several
of Green's and Myres' saddles will be on display. This

is the open range -- from R. Wm.'s Western-themed sculptural

Sunday noon - 5 pm. A critical step
for muralists is the drawing of charcoal studies.
Their purpose is to prepare a scaled rendering
that allows the artist to work out perspectives,
proportions and the size of the actual mural.
Hurd (1904 - 1984), a native of Roswell,
created the mural in 1952. In a letter prior
to creating the artwork, Hurd described his concept
for the piece this way: "(The Mural) would represent
many human activities upon our great southwestern
background-activities such as types of farming,
stockraising, habitation - and finally an overall
picture it would stress...various aspects
of the use, control and conservation of water
and land." Hurd's distinctive style and the
use of southwestern subject matter brought him great
prominence and fame, which continues today, two decades
after his passing. Architects, magazine editors,
art connoisseurs, a president, and a Saudi king sought
out Hurd during his career for commissioned works.
